Changes in the vitreous gel (the liquid that fills the inside of the eye) and retinal problems could be a cause of eye flashes.
In some cases, flashes are a sign that a patient has a condition that can lead to vision loss, particularly when the experience of flashes is new and sudden. If you’re suddenly experiencing eye flashes, it’s advisable to seek help from a doctor. They are usually harmless, however.
Eye flashes can be diagnosed through a clinical eye exam performed by an eye specialist. They will check your visual acuity, dilate your pupil using some eye drops and thoroughly check the back of your eye to exclude any retinal pathologies.
